In 2020, Nelsonians took part in a City For All Ages survey that examined how age-friendly our city is, with information gathered to be used in developing a strategy for Nelson’s ageing demographic.

The survey was published in Our Nelson, produced online, made available at libraries, Council's customer service centre, and also disseminated by groups such as Age Concern, Volunteer Nelson, sports clubs and retirement villages. A total of 596 people responded, with 84 percent of respondents being over the age of 50.

The survey has revealed that on the whole residents aged over 50 years are generally happy with the experience of living in Nelson. However, there are some aspects that could be improved to increase people’s ‘satisfaction’.
